Inside the Science Building—later renamed Thirkield Hall—on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., undergraduates Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman joined their faculty adviser Dr. Ernest Everett Just on November 17, 1911, to form the first Greek-letter fraternity established at a Historically Black College or University. Drawing its Greek initials ΩΨΦ from the motto Friendship is Essential to the Soul, the brotherhood is represented by royal purple and old gold. The Omega Psi Phi Purple Polo Ralph Lauren Crewneck Sweater translates that 1911 collegiate lineage into a classic round-neck pullover built for November Founders’ Day gatherings, chapter meetings, and autumn homecomings.
Tailored Blazer Bear Artwork, 1911 Numerals, and Cardinal Principles
Framed by a rounded royal purple ribbed crewneck collar ringed with a single old-gold horizontal stripe, the front graphic places tall old-gold block numerals 19 on the left and 11 on the right of a curly-furred golden-brown teddy bear, with a small old-gold polo rider silhouette positioned on the upper left chest above the 11. Rather than athletic sportswear, the central mascot is dressed in formal campus attire: a gold-piped royal purple blazer with gold cuff buttons and a left-chest heraldic crest patch displaying ΩΨΦ above a purple-and-gold shield and green laurel wreath. Underneath the blazer, the bear wears a cream cable-knit V-neck sweater vest trimmed in purple and gold stripes over a white dress shirt and a purple-and-gold striped necktie, completed by cuffed khaki-tan trousers, white socks, and purple leather loafers with gold horsebit hardware. Below the loafers, bold old-gold block capitals read OMEGA PSI PHI above white serif lettering reading MANHOOD • SCHOLARSHIP • UPLIFT.

Woven from a 95% polyester and 5% spandex knit blend, the pullover delivers adaptive autumn and winter warmth with light stretch that layers comfortably over a collared dress shirt or casual tee. All-over dye-sublimation embeds the deep royal purple shade, old-gold 1911 lettering, and detailed cable-knit vest and loafer artwork directly into the fabric fibers, keeping the chest pliable and breathable without stiff plastisol ink. Solid royal purple ribbed sleeve cuffs and a structured ribbed waistband hold their shape cleanly at the wrists and waist through brisk November Founders’ Day gatherings and cool-weather alumni weekends.
