November 12, 1922 Butler University Roots and Seven Pearls Symbolism
On November 12, 1922, seven young educators—Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure—founded Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Standing as the only National Pan-Hellenic Council sisterhood established on a predominantly white campus, the organization built its legacy around the slogan Greater Service, Greater Progress. The Sigma Gamma Rho Blue Polo Bear Crewneck Sweater brings that royal blue and gold heritage onto a rounded crewneck silhouette suited for November Founders’ Day programs, campus probate gatherings, and winter chapter service events.
Poodle-Emblem Bear Styling, Pearl Accents, and 1922 Varsity Graphics
Framed by a royal blue ribbed crewneck collar encircled with a single bright gold-yellow horizontal band, the chest layout centers on arched gold-yellow block Greek letters ΣΓΡ outlined in crisp white, with a small gold polo rider silhouette beside the P. Flanked by split gold-yellow double-outlined numerals 19 and 22, a curly-furred golden-brown teddy bear mascot wears a royal blue hair bow printed with gold ΣΓΡ on its left ear alongside a white pearl drop earring and pearl wrist bracelets. The mascot layers a gold-striped royal blue V-neck sweater vest marked ΣΓΡ over a white collared shirt with pushed-up sleeves, paired with blue-white-and-gold sneakers and royal blue cargo joggers featuring a right-leg flap pocket and a gold standing poodle silhouette on the left leg. Stacked lower chest lettering completes the graphic with SIGMA GAMMA RHO in gold-yellow serif capitals, POLO BEAR by RALPH LAUREN in white capitals, and cursive Ralph Lauren script in gold.

Knitted from a smooth 95% polyester and 5% spandex blend, this unisex pullover adapts comfortably across autumn and winter temperatures while offering gentle stretch over an oxford collar or casual tee. Because all-over dye-sublimation fuses the royal blue ground, bright gold typography, and shaded bear illustration directly into the yarn fibers, the chest stays soft, breathable, and pliable without heavy surface transfers that crack or peel during campus wear. Solid royal blue ribbed cuffs and a structured ribbed waistband hold the silhouette neatly at the wrists and waist from brisk morning chapter service projects through evening alumnae receptions.
